Spilled Doritos Wash Up on Beach

November 30, 2006 By: Z Category: Current Events

Spilled Doritos

Today, I’m bringing you some classic Daily Hook news. The Virginian-Pilot reports that,

A cargo container that apparently fell from a ship washed up on the Outer Banks of North Carolina today and spilled thousands of bags of Doritos brand tortilla chips on the beach. Scavengers collected the chips, which were apparently still fresh due to their airtight packaging. It was unknown which ship had lost the cargo or to what port it was bound.

This is pretty hilarious. The site also has pictures of the container and close-ups of the Doritos bags. Apparently each bag is still edible because of the airtight Doritos package! Even though losing the container most likely resulted in a loss of money, I think that this will end up to be great marketing for the brand. We’ll see how this pans out!

Bay Ridge Thanksgiving!

November 25, 2006 By: Z Category: Life

As you know by now, SBKevin and myself no longer live in the slums of Red Hook. This is the first Thanksgiving I have spent in Brooklyn and I was not disappointed. Shouts out to the Greenhouse Cafe between 77th and 78th on 3rd Ave. They served a top notch Thanksgiving, turkey dinner. Even though I was about 30 years younger than the average age of the occupants of the restaurant it was well worth the experience. Its nice to have some age old wisdom in your life every once awhile. After dinner we headed into the city and went to the popular college bar, Down the Hatch to find that it was CLOSED! This is the first time in my 4 years here in New York that I have ever seen Down the Hatch closed. It was absolutely dead. Luckily Down the Hatch’s brother bar, Off the Wagon, was open for business. The bartenders were pretty upset about working but they made sure that all 20 occupants were having a good time, handing out free shots and drinks. Even though it wasn’t the typical jammed packed Off the Wagon night, it was a chill Thanksgiving evening with a few friends.

PayPerPost Tutorial

November 22, 2006 By: Z Category: Product Mentions

This isn’t exactly The Daily Hook’s style, but I know everyone enjoys making money. Also, if you read blogs, you probably also have a blog. Anyways:

I’ve been participating in the PayPerPost ‘consumer generated advertising’ program on my other blog for quite some time now. I’ve made over $500 in 3 months with simply by blogging about products and services from advertiser’s that sign-up to PayPerPost. Basically, you write between 50-300 words on a product and then you receive money straight into your PayPal account. Payments range anywhere from $3 to $200. I particularly like the $10 for 50 words offers.

In order to help others get into the PayPerPost program I’ve written a 5 Step tutorial outlining exactly what you need to do to register a blog, register at PayPerPost, register at PayPal, etc and jump right into the PayPerPost program. I also outline some important aspects, tips, tricks and ’secrets’ of the program to help you be more successful. The tutorial is complete with screenshots as well for newbies that need extra help! Follow the link below for the tutorial.

Cool’eh Magazine and Snitches

November 21, 2006 By: Z Category: Pop Culture

Todays question: Are you a snitch?? Well if you are you need to pick up Cool’eh Magazine and read their editorial on Snitchin and its relation to culture (not just in hip-hop). I found this article to be very interesting and it explains the history of snitching, the difference between a wet snitch and a dry snitch as well as other types of snitches. If you have been a snitch in the past this article might change your mindset. Also, the editorial is followed by another pretty comical article about a dude who says he use to go over to his jewish friends house and play a game called ‘gas chamber’ in the telephone booth the kid had in his basement, but the dude’s friend snitched on him to his mother and he has never been back since. Not that there is anything funny at all about playing a game called gas chamber, and I am not condoning that kids around the world start to take part in this game, however, with the recent release of Borat this article is pretty fitting. Think if this article had as much press as this film did. Would the author get sued? Very likely. He exploited his friend by telling him to get in the phone booth and pass out. If you ask me thats on the same level as Borat production crew exploiting Khazaks. But, I have a good sense of humor so I am not condemning either the author or the creators of Borat. I’m just raising a few points that most likely will never be read by anyone except all 2 of The Daily Hook readers. Anyways, back to my original point, if you need some good reading material for the shitter or elsewhere, pick up Cool’eh magazine – if you can find it. Its pretty hip so I’m not sure if its distributed nationwide.

LonelyGirl15 a Fraud!

November 19, 2006 By: Z Category: Current Events

As you might have recently read, Youtube’s famous and now infamous LonelyGirl15 is a complete fraud. LonelyGirl15 is actually the creation of a dude named Mesh Flinders. If you are unsure of what the hell I’m talking about, you probably don’t frequent the site Youtube. Basically, LonelyGirl15 is a young girl who makes video confessions and posts them on YouTube. She is one of the most popular ‘vloggers’ (video producers) on the site and on the web as a whole. Her videos commonly average over 500,000 views and she is seen as a revolutionary of online video. Now that she has come clean and it has been uncovered that the whole production of the show was carefully orchestrated and followed a script, it is still wildly successful! Viewers and fan of LonelyGirl15 seemed to take things in stride. This is pretty ridiculous, really. Her fans were writing to her asking for advice on emotionally riveting events in their lives and they thought they were receiving advice straight from her. The advice they actually received were from assistants of the production. I think this is kind of comical, but it is crazy to think about. Here is one of her videos:
