TheBurg.tv .. Our people!

July 26, 2006 By: Z Category: Hipster Takeover 1 Comment →

I came across TheBurg.tv website today and at first glance I thought it was hipsters doing a videoblog series making fun of hipsters, which would make absolutely no sense because that would not be funny at all! However, it turns out that these people really are just normal New Yorkers who, like us, realize how out of control hipsters are.

The writing on the series is pretty solid, the acting is alright, but what impresses me the most is the whole overall concept of the show: the anti-hipster movement has begun! I hope they take the time to listen to our radio show. They have a loyal following, maybe they can help us out a little bit!

Before I let them off the hook that easy though, I want some reassurance that the cast and production crew really aren’t hipsters! I checked out their about us page and they look well shaven, groomed, and wearing clothes that appear to be from somewhere else other than the Salvation army. That being said, it looks promising!

Hipster Fashion Company Hires Hipster Coke Head

July 26, 2006 By: Z Category: Fashion, Hipster Takeover No Comments →

Hipster jean peddlers Adriano Goldschmied have hired hipster coke head, Dash Snow, to be its spokesman. I have absolutely no idea who Dash Snow is because, obviously, I am not hip enough but his Wikipedia biography reads,

Dash Snow originally started taking photos when he was a teenager. Using his Polaroids as a diaristic record of the many ‘nights before’ he couldn’t remember, his snapshots piece together a fragmented portrait of peripheral existence. Filling in the voids of his blackouts, Snow’s photos broach the seedy and taboo with a dislocated intimacy.

Sounds like a perfect role model for your kids as well as an individual who you’d definitely want to take home to mom. I apologize for that low blow to all beautiful hipster loving females!

Red Hook .. best mexican food in NYC!

July 24, 2006 By: Z Category: Food No Comments →

This isn’t really The Daily Hook style to post about such topics, but it needs to be said that Red Hook has the best mexican food in New York City. I’ve known this for awhile since I go down there to watch the Ex soccer pros from Central America try to relive their glory days at the park. 423Smith, The Gowanus Lounge, and The Porkchop Express have all recently covered this and have some great things to say. Go look at some pictures of these damn good meals!

Who is Rhymefest?

July 24, 2006 By: Z Category: Music 2 Comments →

Rhymefest is a rapper from Chicago who co-wrote the Kanye West hit single “Jesus Walks” and recently released a solo album called Blue Collar. Rhymefest is also the man who SBKevin followed up at hip-hop karaoke before he miserably bombed in front of 500 people, forever tarnishing his career as the Carroll Gardens/Red Hook karaoke legend! This story is discussed in our debut podcast which can be downloaded here.

Rhymefest also recently did an interview with The Guardian Unlimited newspaper which makes me respect him and his music more than I use to. Read it here, and find out why!

Method Man Comments on Indie Rock…

July 24, 2006 By: Z Category: Music No Comments →

Here is a little snippet from a recent Village Voice interview with Method Man, who is droppin’ a new album soon.

I saw you do a show a couple of months ago, the Bamboozle Festival in New Jersey with all the rock bands. You were the only rapper on the bill.

I know, and I had to go out there and earn it. Those are some of the hardest crowds, especially when it’s just rock and roll. But those were the hair bands. These new hair bands. You see these fucking fags? Man, these dudes walking around with the eyeliner, the blush, the gloss, the hair. Anyway. What was you going to say?

We aren’t the only ones who have noticed the change in Indie music, paved by hipsters!

REAL NEWS about The Onion

July 20, 2006 By: Z Category: Current Events No Comments →

For once, we’re bringing you some real news, but only because it deals with our favorite newspaper, The Onion.

Earlier in the week it was rumored that media giant Viacom was in negotiations to buy The Onion. Today, however, The Madison, WI. based Capital Times newspaper reports that this was indeed a rumor. The Onion CEO, Steve Hannah, and other high level execs posted a memo on the company’s intranet with the title “Factual Error Found on Internet,” clearing up the rumor to The Onion’s employees.

Personally, I think it is great news that The Onion will remain private because that means they can still remain to be “America’s Finest News Source” and not worry about having to censor itself and tone down its content like it very likely might have to do if the paper were under the Viacom umbrella.

The Capital Times also reports that,

“A new design for the print edition is due this week, and plans call for making the printed Onion available in up to a dozen new cities by 2008.”

I’m excited to see that The Onion is expanding into new territories, plaguing the nation with high quality news content, much like The Daily Hook right?

PBR Disgraces its own brand

July 20, 2006 By: Z Category: Beer 3 Comments →

In a complete disgrace to its own brand, Pabst Blue Ribbon has announced a new product, PBR LIGHT! ..wack wack wack. If it aint broke don’t fix it. Why the hell do we need a LIGHT version of PBR? WE DONT! Real men drink PBR, and so do real women for that matter. Anyone who gives in to this and actually drinks this disgrace of a beer deserves to be picked up by the Hipster Taskforce*

Some random MySpace blogger writes,

“Have you ever been drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon (that means first place!)  and love that prize winning taste but feel like its too heavy and has too much alcohol for drinking on the clock?  Me too.  Now there is a whole new product that will change all of our lives.  Brace youtselves, PABST BLUE RIBBON LIGHT!!!  Yes, now you can enjoy all the tase of PBR whilest working or operating heavy machinery!  Not only that but there are less calories (i know your counting girls) and a silverier can.  Horray PBRL!”

He  sounds pretty excited to be able to drink PBR LIGHT while operating his John Deer. He sucks.

NOTE: I cannot find a source to verify this bloggers claim of PBRL. I’ll pray before I sleep that this is a false rumor!
